The finance ministry today said income tax dues from 12 individuals, including stud-farm owner Hasan Ali Khan, account for 90 per cent of the total income tax outstanding.
"The amount of outstanding income tax dues is a dynamic figure. As on September 30, 2010, about 90 per cent of the outstanding personal income-tax demand were due from 12 individual taxpayers," Minister of State for Finance S S Palanimanickam said in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha.
Outstanding demands in Hasan Ali group of cases are disputed at various appellate levels, Palanimanickam said, adding that known movable/immovable assets have been identified for recovery.
"The recovery of taxes is a continuous process and all efforts are being made by income-tax authorities for recovering these outstanding tax demands," he added.
"A multi-disciplinary team has been constituted by the Department of Revenue. Proposals...for recovering the tax in pursuance of agreements with foreign countries have been initiated," Palanimanickam said.
