“There is no chance for the welfare of the world unless the condition of women is improved. It is impossible for a bird to fly on only one wing” -Swami Vivekananda
Indian society is male dominant where woman are not only looked down upon, but also widely discriminated against .Women are denied basic social & domestic rights due to gender bias. Many women are illiterate, underprivileged, exploited sexually & treated in an unfair manner due to traditional mindset.
Empowerment of woman is the real sense is the need of the hour. This is only possible if we provide woman due status in personal, family & above all a safer social sphere.
“Today there is no field where the women have not shown their worth. Form holding highest public office in bureaucracy to holding highest political positions, the woman have achieved all kind of responsibilities with grand success .But sufferings of woman has increased in several ways.”
During ancient days the duties of women were just contained to bring up the children & caring every family member with her loving characteristics which she naturally owes. Man used woman for his lust & desires. It was the faith that man is for the field & woman for the home. But in this modern world role of a women is not only limited to a mother, Sister & wife infact she has now become financially free & the policy maker of her own. With the political emancipation of India, the woman of free India is ushered into this new role which carries greater responsibilities with it. Women’s now go to offices & plays active role in each sector of our society,
But since they are all free, are they really secured? Do they get the same sense of safety & security at places other than home too? The answer will be “NO”. Because people find it more difficult to accept the woman as independent personality. With woman entering into new fields, she become more vulnerable to the dangers like eve teasing, sexual advancements & many other hardships. She suffers from a mentally & physically division between home & the outside world.
The situation demands effective measures to protect the woman from these hardships. There is an urgent need to make new amendments to provide extra legal teeth to Laws relating to woman. Stringent provisions should be inserted in every law & sections are to be made more powerful in order to overcome this typical situation. Unless man’s attitude towards woman changes, any kind of law, however, stringent may be, cannot change the position of woman in the society.
Educational Serials & programmes must be launched to educate the society through audio & visual media, so that woman could feel safe & live peacefully. In this technically advanced world, certain techniques like fixing cameras at sensitive areas & offices can reduce the harassment of woman to a great extent. Woman’s should also at their individual level try to face these problem’s strongly & should not initially allow any misbehavior done to them. Police helpline services must be started at every place especially for women. Self-protection programmes for women must be launched. Mobile phones must be provided to all the women by their family member’s so that they can contact them in case of emergency.
The role of authorities should not be merely confined to framing policies for woman but should also be to take actions to serve the woman & take extra caution of such matters so that no such incidence happens thereafter. Even Public should not accept any kind of misbehavior with the women. They should immediately come forward to help the woman in need.
A change of social attitude & honesty on the part of politicians is must to make the woman participate in the nation building at grass root level. Rightly said by Dr. Rajendra Prasad,” our women have a very great part to play in the progress of our country as the mental & physical contact of woman with life is much more lasting & comprehensive than that of men”.
Women is no less creature than that of men. Woman undoubtedly, can play a very important role in the betterment of the society. We should respect women who have been adored & worshipped as goddess.
It was rightly said that “the hand that rock the cradle, rules the world.
