Rama Navami is one of the important Hindu festivals of India, celebrated with great fanfare. The festival falls on the ninth day of the Chaitra month of Hindu lunar year in 'Shukla paksha' or waxing moon. Therefore, the festival is also referred to as Chaitra Masa Suklapaksha Navami. The festival marks the culmination of the nine-day celebrations of Chaitra Navaratri. Ram Navami is celebrated with religious fervor. The festival commemorates the birthday of Lord Rama, when Lord Vishnu was incarnated as Rama on this day, through Dasharatha's wife Kaushalya. All through the day of the festival, the devotees of Lord Rama indulge themselves in the worship of the deity. Special pujas are conducted in temples, as part of the festivities. |
