if the assessee has 5 fixed deposits of Rs 40000 each in a bank, is he liable to furnish his PAN for the same? and what about TDS?  ie is tds to be deducted on interest earned on such fixed deposits?

Yes if one branch will pay you more than Rs.10,000 interest then that interest will be subject ot provision of TDS

1. if you will furnish your PAN to bank then tds will be deducted @ 10%

2. If you will not furnish your pan then Bank will deduct TDS @ 20%
