Just days before the highly anticipated declaration of the Chartered Accountants (CA) Final and Intermediate exam results, an online storm has erupted. Rumors and unverified claims of a severe cyber-compromise targeting the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) have gone viral across X (formerly Twitter), Reddit, and various cybercrime tracking forums.  
With CA Final results scheduled for June 18, 2026, and Intermediate results set for June 24, 2026, the timing of these allegations has triggered immense anxiety among thousands of students and members of the accounting community.  

🌐 What Happened on the Internet? The Viral Claims
The panic began over the weekend when cybercrime monitoring handles—most notably the popular threat intelligence account DarkWebInformer—flagged a malicious listing on a dark web forum.  
According to these tracking posts, an anonymous threat actor operating under the digital alias "zowico" claimed to have breached ICAI’s internal servers. The claim quickly migrated from hidden forums to mainstream platforms like X and Reddit, gaining traction rapidly under result-related hashtags.  

🛑 What the Threat Actor "zowico" Claims on Social Media:
The hacker’s claims are split into two major, yet completely unverified, allegations:   Superadmin Access to Examiners Portal: The threat actor claimed to have achieved "full remote code execution" and superadmin control over the official ICAI examiners interface.

They alleged that they could access the answer sheets of students who wrote the May 2026 exams, view examiner profiles, and see internal marking schemes. Ability to Alter Student Marks: Most alarmingly for students, the hacker claimed the portal exploit allowed them to modify marks at both an individual question-wise level and across complete answer booklets.  

600,000+ Member Database Leak: In a separate parallel claim, the same actor posted a 120 MB sample file on June 14, alleging they had leaked a database containing over 600,000 records of registered ICAI members. They claimed this data contained names, email addresses, phone numbers, professional addresses, and Certificate of Practice (CoP) registration details.

The timing of the rumor created a perfect storm. Given recent nationwide conversations surrounding vulnerabilities in large-scale educational testing systems (such as the NTA NEET controversies), students on Reddit and X expressed deep concern over whether their hard-earned results were being manipulated or delayed.
