New GSTN guidelines for transport via Indian Railways: Buyers won’t receive goods if E-Way Bill doesn’t have this detail, here’s how to do it
Goods and Services Tax (GST): GSTN in a new advisory said now freight operation information system (FOIS) of the Indian Railways has now been integrated with the E-Way Bill (EWB) system of the Goods and Services Tax (GST). Experts say now buyers must be careful about the validity of the E-Way Bill generated by the seller. If there is any discrepancy goods can be seized by the GST officer.
The Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) has informed that freight operation information system (FOIS) of the Indian Railways has now been integrated with the E-Way Bill (EWB) system of the Goods and Services Tax (GST). Since the responsibility of accurate information in the E-Way Bill is on the person who has ownership status of the goods. So, in case of any discrepancy this person will be held legally responsible. Experts also say that due to this integration the government can now check for discrepancy in goods declared to be transported and the goods actually being transported.
Earlier the Railways and GST system was not integrated and buyers had to depend upon the good faith of the seller to type in the correct details in part B of the E-Way Bill if the seller was generating it. If the buyer was generating the E-Way Bill, then the seller could lose his goods if the GST department found an inaccurate E-Way Bill. This could disrupt business operations.
