Bengal GST Collections Rise 12% to Rs 12,905 Crore in Q1 FY27
Bengal recorded Goods and Services Tax collections of Rs 12,905 crore during the first quarter of FY 2026–27, reflecting year-on-year growth of 12%. Collections stood at Rs 11,532 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous financial year, resulting in an increase of Rs 1,373 crore.
State authorities linked the improvement in revenue to stronger tax compliance and enforcement measures aimed at identifying fraudulent transactions. The state government expects the positive collection trend to continue as compliance monitoring is strengthened.
The reported growth was achieved despite the rationalisation of GST rates in September 2025. Rates on several categories, including white goods, fast-moving consumer goods and small cars, were reduced from 18% to 5%. According to estimates cited in the report, growth could have exceeded 20% if collections were compared using the tax rates applicable in the previous financial year.
Inter-state GST trends also reflected changes in transaction reporting. Outbound Integrated GST, applicable to goods and services supplied for consumption in other states, had increased by 17% during FY26. In Q1 FY27, however, outbound IGST declined marginally by 0.2%, while inbound IGST increased by 4%.
Officials attributed the decline in outbound IGST to the detection and removal of fraudulent IGST transactions. Since Bengal is primarily a consumer state, authorities had identified the earlier sharp increase in outbound IGST as an unusual movement requiring examination.
For the full FY26, Bengal’s GST revenue reached Rs 47,201 crore, compared with Rs 45,224 crore in FY25, representing an annual increase of Rs 1,977 crore. CA Sansaar
