Government will introduce the Real Estate Regulatory Authority and Development Bill in the coming winter session of Parliament to protect the right of consumers and to encourage regulated growth of real estate sector. Talking to media persons in New Delhi today, Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation Minister Ms. Selja said the draft Bill will be sent to the Cabinet for its approval soon.
Elaborating the salient features of the Real Estate Bill, the Minister said, it seeks to establish a regulatory oversight mechanism to enforce disclosure, fair practice and accountability norms in the real estate sector. Ms. Selja said, it will also provide adjudication machinery for speedy dispute redressel. The Minister asserted that the main purpose of the Bill is to bring transparency in dealing with consumers.
Ms. Selja also informed about two other important draft bills. These are Draft Model Property Rights to Slum Dwellers Act 2011 and a Bill to seek Central legislation to address the problems of Street Vendors. She said her Ministry has proposed the strengthening of its Slum redevelopment strategy by working towards slum free cities. Draft Model Property Rights to Slum Dwellers Act is aimed at assigning property rights to Slum dwellers under the Rajiv Awas Yojana.
Ms. Salja informed that her Ministry is also working to evolve an effective and practical central legislation to address the problems of Street Vendors.
Ms Salja, who is also holding the charge of Ministry of Culture, informed that Cultural Heritage Young Leadership Programme will be launched on the 19th of this month, the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, to promote cultural awareness among school children. She said the focus of the programme will be on the less privileged children residing in backward areas through regional languages as a medium of communication.
