Sunil Shinde, chartered accountant of Pune-based horse owner Hasan Ali Khan and suspect in the multi-crore hawala racket and tax evasion scam, on Wednesday sought police protection after receiving an anonymous threat letter in the morning.
Shinde and his counsel advocate Rahul Dinodokar approached deputy commissioner of police (Crime Branch) Anant Rokde on Wednesday afternoon and submitted his application for police protection. Later, the Crime Branch officers recorded his statement.
Advocate Dindokar said Shinde received the anonymous threat letter around 11 am at his residence in Sahakarnagar. “Unidentified persons have threatened Shinde to declare the names of politicians involved in the alleged scam or he will have to face the consequences. So we have filed an application for police protection. The decision on the application would be taken by Thursday afternoon,” said Dindokar.
