In a relief to taxpayers, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has officially extended the due date for filing Income Tax Returns (ITRs) for Assessment Year 2025-26. Initially due by 31st July 2025, the new deadline has now been moved to 15th September 2025.
 

This extension comes in light of significant changes introduced in the notified ITRs, which involve structural and content revisions aimed at improving compliance, increasing transparency, and enhancing accuracy in reporting. These changes have required additional time for system development, integration, and testing.
 

The extension is expected to offer stakeholders a smoother and more convenient filing experience while allowing adequate time for adapting to the new system updates. A formal notification is expected to follow shortly.
