Government will hold discussions with its alliance partners on the Lokpal Bill on Tuesday ahead of tabling the Bill in Parliament. While the government says it is committed to pass the Bill in the current session to deal with corruption effectively, opposition is in favour of bringing Prime Minister and Lower Bureaucracy under Lok Pal. The Cabinet will take up the Bill for discussion next week.
Reacting to Team Anna's Open Debate on the Bill, Law Minister Salman Khurshid on Monday said that discussions should be held on all important issues and Parliament is the best platform to hold discussions. Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni charged the Opposition of double speak and said that political leaders should not have participated in the open debate . She was talking to reporters outside Parliament
The Congress said, it is unfortunate that Political opportunism by opposition parties has overruled the values of Parliamentary democracy. Briefing reporters in New Delhi , party spokesperson Renuka Chaudhary alleged that the intent of Team Anna's campaign against corruption is political. She added that Congress does not regret reaching out to team Anna and making them part of the democratic process.
On the other hand, BJP maintained that it has not shown any disrespect to Parliament by participating in an open debate . Talking to reporters outside Parliament, Party Spokesman Ravi Shankar Prasad said that there is nothing wrong by holding a dialogue outside Parliament. He stated that the law making authority rests exclusively with Parliament.
