Income Tax department issues mass transfer and promotion orders to over 100 officials

In a major reshuffle, the Income Tax department has issued mass transfer and promotion orders to over 100 tax officials across the country.
The transfers on Tuesday, included officials of the rank of Commissioner of assistant and deputy commissioners of income tax and principal chief commissioner, principal director general and director general of income tax.
According to circular, passed by the Central Board of Direct Tax ( CBDT), the transfer includes 104 assistant and deputy commissioners of income tax and three principal chief commissioner grade transfers.
"The following officers are transferred and posted as indicates against names of each of them with immediate effect and until further order," the two circulars signed by Brij Mohan, Under Secretary to Government of India said. The order came on law Tuesday night.
The development was on expected lines as the department of promotion committee had convened a meeting way back in the first week of May, said people familiar with the development.
"The transfers are part of cadre restructuring and the exercise will address increased work in load and also provide better tax administration," said a senior Mumbai-based tax official. "There were many vacate posts which were fulfilled now and department will be able to function more efficiently."
Earlier, last year in November, revenue department had issued similar mass transfer and promotion orders to about 500 tax officials across the country those transferred included officials of the rank of Commissioner of Income Tax, Director of Income Tax, Chief Commissioner, Director General, Principal Chief Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner.
