Income Tax Department Urges Taxpayers to File ITR 1 and ITR 2 by July 31, 2026

The Income Tax Department has advised taxpayers to file their Income Tax Returns (ITRs) for Assessment Year 2026–27 within the prescribed deadline and avoid the last-minute rush. Taxpayers eligible to use ITR 1 or ITR 2 should submit their returns by July 31, 2026. Before filing, they should reconcile the income and tax details reported in Form 16, Form 26AS and the Annual Information Statement (AIS). Taxpayers should also verify relevant bank statements, investment records and deduction proofs to ensure that all income, tax payments and eligible deductions are accurately reported.
