RBI Reviewing Complaint Over Standard Chartered Bank’s Asset Sales
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is currently reviewing a complaint concerning the sale of certain assets by Standard Chartered Bank, following allegations that the assets were repeatedly disposed of at discounted values. According to a statement made by Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary in Parliament, the central bank has received two separate complaints connected to assets associated with three developers.
One of the complaints, filed in February 2026, is presently under examination by the RBI. Meanwhile, the final decision on another complaint submitted in October 2024 is still awaited.
The minister clarified that the disposal of assets by a secured creditor is generally considered a commercial decision taken by the concerned entity. However, the RBI is assessing the matter based on the complaints received. No additional details were provided in the written reply to Parliament.
Standard Chartered Bank India has not yet issued any official response regarding the matter.
