Reserve Bank of India Appoints Ravi Shankar as Executive Director Effective July 1, 2026
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has appointed Ravi Shankar as its Executive Director (ED) with effect from July 1, 2026, according to an official announcement issued by the central bank.
Before his elevation to the post of Executive Director, Ravi Shankar was serving as Adviser-In-Charge of the Department of Statistics and Information Management (DSIM). Following his appointment, he will continue to oversee the same department as Executive Director, strengthening the RBI's statistical and information management functions.
A career central banker with more than 30 years of experience, Ravi Shankar has worked across several critical areas of the Reserve Bank, including corporate statistics, banking statistics, government securities market, settlement systems, debt management, and economic surveys. His extensive experience is expected to support the RBI's data-driven policy formulation and institutional operations.
The RBI also noted that Ravi Shankar has contributed to various committees and working groups dealing with macroeconomic statistics and policy-related matters, reflecting his longstanding involvement in the country's statistical and economic policy framework.
Academically, Ravi Shankar holds a Master's Degree in Statistics from Banaras Hindu University, a Diploma in Development Policy and Planning from the Institute of Economic Growth, Delhi, and is a Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Banking and Finance (CAIIB).
The appointment reinforces the Reserve Bank's focus on strengthening its statistical infrastructure and information management capabilities through experienced institutional leadership.
