Manipur GST Bill 2025 Gets Green Signal from Lok Sabha
The Lok Sabha has passed the Manipur Goods and Services Tax (Second Amendment) Bill, 2025. This bill changes the existing Manipur GST Act, 2017. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman introduced the bill to align Manipur’s GST rules with the Centre’s new GST rate structure. It also replaces an ordinance that was issued in October 2025.
The bill aims to put into effect the GST Council’s decisions, including merging the current GST rates into two main slabs — 5% and 18%. Earlier, in August this year, the Lok Sabha had already passed the first amendment bill to replace another ordinance.
The 56th GST Council meeting, which includes representatives from the Centre and all states, decided to simplify GST rates on around 375 items by merging the 5%, 12%, 18% and 28% slabs into two rates — 5% and 18%.
