ECLGS 5.0 Crosses 4.11 Lakh Guarantees, MSMEs Receive Major Support
The Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme 5.0 has recorded strong early progress, with over 4.11 lakh guarantees issued since its launch. The scheme, approved by the Union Cabinet on 5 May 2026, is aimed at providing liquidity support to businesses affected by financial stress, especially MSMEs and other eligible borrowers.
Under the scheme, the guaranteed amount has reached over ₹1.55 lakh crore, reflecting quick adoption by lending institutions and borrowers. The initiative provides 100% guarantee coverage for additional loans to MSMEs and 90% coverage for other eligible business segments. This structure is intended to help businesses manage cash-flow pressure and continue operations with improved credit access.
MSMEs remain the main beneficiaries of ECLGS 5.0. As per the update, 98% of the guarantees issued by number have supported MSMEs, while 82% of the total guaranteed amount has also gone towards the MSME sector. This shows the scheme’s continued focus on small businesses, which often require timely financial assistance to sustain working capital and business activity.
To improve awareness and implementation, the Department of Financial Services has also started outreach programmes across the country. The first phase was completed from 20 May 2026 to 6 June 2026 at nine locations through State Level Bankers’ Committees. The second phase is currently being held at ten locations, with four already completed.
The government said the scheme is expected to strengthen the credit ecosystem and support businesses, including MSMEs, in meeting their liquidity requirements during challenging economic conditions. CA Sansaar
