Freight and carriage are synonymous terms. In accounting terminology, 'freight' is used by Americans whereas British use the word 'carriage'.

CARRIAGE means a wheeled vehicle and FREIGHT means cargo i.e goods |

Though, we understand the meaning of word carriage and freight are much similar, there exists a change.
The word Carriage is predominantly used in cases when the goods were moved from one location to other location using a cart. However with modern automation in technology, more of commercial carriers are used to transport the goods. The freight word as mentioned above were part american.
