ITR-2 for AY 2026-27 Now Available on e-Filing Portal
The Income Tax Department has officially enabled the online filing facility and Excel offline utility for ITR-2 for Assessment Year (AY) 2026-27 on the Income Tax e-Filing Portal.
Taxpayers can now report their income earned during the Financial Year (FY) 2025-26. This follows the earlier rollout of utilities for ITR-1 and ITR-4.
Who Needs to File ITR-2?
This form applies to individuals and Hindu Undivided Families (HUFs) who do not have income from business or profession.
According to the Income Tax Department Guidelines, you must use ITR-2 if you meet any of these criteria:
Capital Gains: Earned profits from selling shares, mutual funds, or real estate.
High Income: Total income exceeds ₹50 Lakhs.
Multiple Properties: Income from more than one house property.
Foreign Assets: Hold global investments or earned foreign income.
Company Roles: Serve as a director in a company or hold unlisted shares.
Available Filing Modes
Online Mode: Complete the return forms dynamically directly inside your web portal.
Excel Utility: Download the spreadsheet from the official portal, enter data offline, and upload the generated JSON file.
Important Deadlines
Filing Deadline: The last date for individual taxpayers filing ITR-2 is July 31, 2026.
