FM Sitharaman Flags Cybersecurity Concerns Over Advanced AI ‘Claude Mythos’

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday convened a high-level meeting with senior officials and bank heads to assess emerging cybersecurity threats linked to Anthropic’s advanced AI model, Claude Mythos. The system, regarded as highly sophisticated, has raised concerns due to its potential capability to breach digital infrastructures.

During the discussions, the Finance Minister emphasized the urgent need for robust monitoring frameworks and rapid response mechanisms to detect and counter possible cyber threats targeting the banking and financial ecosystem.

In a statement shared by the Ministry of Finance on X, Sitharaman cautioned stakeholders about the serious implications of such advanced AI technologies. The ministry described the potential threat as “unprecedented,” underscoring the necessity for heightened vigilance, stronger preparedness, and improved coordination among banks and financial institutions to safeguard critical systems.
