CAG Audit Exposes ₹100+ Crore Discrepancies in Jammu & Kashmir Finances
The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) has identified financial discrepancies exceeding ₹100 crore in Jammu and Kashmir, highlighting shortcomings in fund utilization and expenditure management, as per its latest audit report. The observations raise serious concerns about financial discipline and the effective use of public resources in the Union Territory.
The audit noted that ₹104.51 crore falls under doubtful recovery, while delays and poor financial handling led to avoidable interest payments amounting to ₹6.88 crore. In addition, ₹2.65 crore remained unspent or idle, pointing towards gaps in planning and execution.
It was further observed that funds were often retained without timely deployment, resulting in inefficiencies in development-related spending. The report emphasized that such avoidable costs and underutilization of funds indicate weaknesses in monitoring and financial planning.
Experts believe that these lapses not only cause financial losses but also slow down developmental progress. The findings are likely to lead to closer scrutiny of financial systems and stronger accountability measures across departments.
