NFRA Plans Audit Review of 35–40 Companies in FY26
The National Financial Reporting Authority (NFRA) is set to expand its inspection exercise in the financial year 2025–26, with plans to scrutinize the audits of approximately 35 to 40 companies. The move forms part of the regulator’s ongoing efforts to enhance audit standards and reinforce financial reporting oversight in India.
According to sources familiar with the development, the audit watchdog will examine the financial statements of selected companies for the year ending 31 March 2026. This review will be carried out under NFRA’s annual inspection programme, which evaluates the quality of audit work performed by audit firms.
The proposed increase in the number of companies under review signals a continued focus on strengthening regulatory supervision and ensuring greater accountability in the auditing ecosystem. In the previous financial year, a comparatively lower number of company audits were taken up for inspection as part of the annual exercise.
Through these inspections, NFRA aims to assess compliance with auditing standards, identify gaps where necessary, and promote higher levels of transparency and reliability in corporate financial reporting.
