RBI Reports Major Success in ₹2,000 Note Withdrawal; Only 1.59% Remain
MUMBAI (Jan 1): - The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Thursday announced that 98.41 per cent of ₹2,000 denomination banknotes previously in circulation have now been returned to the banking system.
The central bank had declared the withdrawal of the ₹2,000 notes on May 19, 2023.
According to the RBI, the total value of ₹2,000 notes in circulation has fallen sharply from ₹3.56 lakh crore as on May 19, 2023, to ₹5,669 crore as of the close of business on December 31, 2025.
