CBDT Allows Tax Data Sharing for Maharashtra Farmer Loan Waiver Scheme
The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has authorised the Director General of Income Tax (Systems), Delhi, to provide specified taxpayer information to the Cooperation, Marketing and Textile Department of the Government of Maharashtra. The order was issued on July 22, 2026, under Section 258(1)(b) of the Income-tax Act, 2025, superseding the CBDT’s earlier order dated July 10, 2026.
The information will be used to identify eligible beneficiaries under the Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Farmer Loan Waiver Scheme, 2026. For verification, the Maharashtra Government will provide Aadhaar numbers or PAN details along with the relevant assessment year or tax year to the DGIT (Systems), Delhi.
Where a PAN is provided or the submitted Aadhaar number is linked with a PAN, the Income Tax Department will respond using the flags “Yes,” “No,” or “Not Available.” The response will indicate the taxpayer’s income tax return filing status and whether any income tax remains payable after rebate, based on the department’s database.
If the Aadhaar number is not linked with any PAN, the response will state that the information cannot be provided due to the absence of PAN-Aadhaar linkage. The frequency and method of data exchange will be decided by the DGIT (Systems) in consultation with the Maharashtra Government.
A Memorandum of Understanding will also be executed between the DGIT (Systems) and the notified Maharashtra authority. It will prescribe safeguards relating to secure data transfer, confidentiality, preservation, disposal of information after use and the timeline for sharing the required information.
