Q. > Please Help: Relief u/s 89(1) Income Tax
If individual's income of F.Y. 2005-06 is Rs. 100000 and of F.Y. 2011-12 is Rs. 220000. In F.Y. 2011-12 she received 30% of total arrears of Rs. 20000 relating to F.Y. 2005-06 i.e. Rs. 6000 in F.Y. 2011-12 and we claimed a relief u/s 89(1). Now if In F.Y. 2012-13 she received 40% of arrears of Rs, 20000 relating to F.Y. 2005-06 i.e. 8000 then for calculating relief u/s 89(1) income of F.Y. 2005-06 will be considered Rs. 100000 or Rs. 106000 and that of F.Y. 2011-12 will be cosidered Rs. 220000 or Rs. 226000? Please answer the query.

Income for F Y 2005-06 would be considered as Rs. 106000 for claiming relief in F Y 2012-13.
Income for F Y 2011-12 is Rs. 200000/- only.

Please read 200000 as 220000.

While calculating relief u/s 89(1) in f/y 2012-13 income (excluding arrear) for f/y 2005-06 will be considered as Rs. 106000 as arrear of Rs.6000 received on 2011-12 i.e. before 2012-13. And for 2011-12 income will be considered as Rs. 220000 as arrear of Rs. 6000 wasnt relating to that year. Hope u have got ur answer.
