Q. > Please Help: Taxability of salary
sir my brother join govt jo in month of of nov 2009 but he received salary from nov to march in april 2010. whether salary related to 2009-10 is taxable in 2010-11. if his salary taxed in 2010-11 can he get any relief from tax?
answered Mar 02, 2012 by CA. MANISH MALHOTRA , Delhi
This salary will taxable in A/y 2011-2012(i.e financial year 2010-2011). Also you can claim relief u/s 89 of Income Tax Act, 1961

Salary is taxable on receipt or accrual basis whichever is earlier. So the salary will be taxable in AY 2010-11 i.e. year 2009-10 itself.

Dear Priyavart, I am fully agree with Manish Ji, it will be taxable in AY 2011-12 but relief under section 89 can be claimed.
Hope you got the answer you were looking for, have a nice day.......
